International News: Dominican Republic to send diesel to Haiti for use in hospitals

Posted: Friday, October 21, 2022. 9:51 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Dominican Republic will send diesel to Haiti for use mainly in hospitals, Reuters report.

The Dominican Republic approved a request by a trading firm to export 20,500 gallons of diesel to Haiti for use principally in hospitals as gangs continue blocking a key fuel terminal.

Many Haitian hospitals are left without diesel to power their generators due to the ongoing crisis that the country faces.

Several hospitals have halted operations amidst a cholera outbreak and the humanitarian crisis driven by food and water shortages.

Haiti’s Foreign Minister Jean Victor Geneus has called on the international community to provide Haiti with “robust support” to ensure police can fight against armed gangs.
