Santander Sugar Group is a young Belizean agricultural and industrial company, dedicated to the production of sugar cane and electricity, as well as the manufacture and sale of sugar and molasses.

Santander was created from scratch in Belize with a lot of effort and represents one of the largest investments made in the country in recent decades.

The name Santander, and that of all its farms, refers to a province in Spain, as an affectionate reminder of the place of origin of José Rodríguez Briz, father of the founders of Santander Sugar Group.

He was a tireless worker who one day dreamed of building a sugar mill, and today his children and grandchildren have made it possible thanks to his legacy and that of his wife, Doña Irma González de Rodríguez.

Santander is a company that directly employs more than 1,000 people each year and has been an important economic boost for families and businesses in the area, especially during and after the pandemic, thanks to the fact that being considered an essential company, it was able to continue operating and employing its employees and suppliers.

In addition, Santander Sugar Group uses pioneering technology in Belize, since both planting and harvesting are 100% mechanized, using state-of-the-art equipment in both agricultural and industrial machinery and tools.

Unlike other mills, whose cutting is done by hand after the cane is burned, in Santander, the cane is cut green without the need to burn it previously and mechanically, which favors the environment and the safety of the people.

“Santander Sugar opted for Belize to invest and stay and is very grateful for the opportunity that this wonderful country has given it. Despite the recent inclement weather, the increase in production costs due to higher prices, and some initial difficulties in obtaining all the necessary personnel, Santander looks to the future with optimism and gratitude,” the company says.

The company currently has 500 employees and is hoping to employ over 850 during the next harvest period.

Vacancies exist for truck drivers, bus drivers, tractor drivers, harvest supervisors, harvester operators, air conditioning technicians, factory assistants, longshoremen, laboratory technicians, mechanics, welders, agronomists and industrial engineers, administrative staff, and laborers.
