By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A student of Lake Weir Middle School in Summerfield, Florida reportedly took $10,000 from her grandma and was handing it out to students at her school, Yahoo reports.
On October 20, 2022, Principal Jason Jacobs told parents that a student was handing out significant amounts of money.
Jacobs asked parents to help get the money back.
“If you would speak with your children, and if they have received money from the student, please turn it into our school resource officers,” Principal Jacobs said in a voicemail to parents.
Authorities responded to the school and searched the student’s backpack and found $2,587.
During an interview, the teen told investigators that she had broken into her grandmother’s safe using a screwdriver.
Another student told police that the accused student had been handing out money all day in amounts of $200, $400 and $700.
Deputies were able to recover about $3,287 of the stolen cash, according to an affidavit.
