By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On October 20, 2022, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) in collaboration with the Cuban Embassy in Belize launched the Cuban Culture Day Exhibit at the Belize City House of Culture.
Each year on October 20, Cuba celebrates National Day of Culture commemorating the first time the ‘La Bayamesa’ or the Cuban National Anthem was first composed and sung.
“The exhibit stands as a symbol of the unbreakable friendship and cooperation that exists between Belize and the Republic of Cuba. Curated by the Museum of Belize, it features a variety of photos and paintings that captures Cuban culture, daily life, and global humanitarianism,” NICH noted.
Attending the launch were Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor-General of Belize, Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs, Dian Maheia, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Cuban Ambassador to Belize, María Caridad Balaguer also attended the launch.
The exhibit can be viewed at the House of Culture between 9 am and 4 pm during normal working days.
The exhibit remains open until November 3, 2022.
