Official Coast Guard boat apparently deliberately set on fire, police say

By Aaron Humes: Police are treating the burning of a 38-foot vessel belonging to the Belize Coast Guard on Saturday night as an apparent arson.

Police responded to the report at the Coast Guard base at its headquarters at Mile 4, George Price Highway, and found the white boat with the markings “Belize Coast Guard” engulfed in flames and a dark blue boat with fire damage. One person was reportedly seen aboard before the fire incident.

The Coast Guard vessel’s value is estimated at $800,000 and it carried three Marine engines whose value is unknown.

Investigations continue.
