Verdes blank Wagiya 2-0; regain 2^nd spot in Premier League of Belize

Verdes won the battle of the oldest active clubs in Belize’s Premier League 2-0 over Dangriga’s Wagiya on Sunday.

With the victory at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Verdes moved up to 24 points regaining the second position in the PLB. They now have two more points than the San Pedro Pirates who on Saturday played to a 0-0 stalemate with Benque United. However, San Pedro have a backmatch to play on Wednesday night in Independence against leaders Altitude.

Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris and Luis Ibarra converted for the Green Machine. Ibarra now has seven goals while Harris totals five.

Verdes’ Eldon Reneau and Wagiya’s Byron Chavez were red carded after accumulation of yellow cards.

Verdes now only have one game left to play, their final season match against Bandits at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday.

Wagiya, who have 14 points and had been banking on a win to regain a playoff spot, have two games left and may still qualify to the semifinals. They play Port Layola on Wednesday at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga and Benque United on Saturday at the same venue.
