By Benjamin Flowers: A member of the Belize Coast Guard has been arrested and charged after allegedly setting fire to a boat and three outboard engines valued around $500,000.
On Monday, police officially arrested and charged Emmanuel McFadzean with three counts of arson.
Allegations against him are that on the night of Saturday, October 22, he entered the Belize Coast Guard compound and began to siphon gas from one of the engines on the vessel “The Boston Whaler” which was dry docked for maintenance.
Further allegations are that during his alleged illicit act the vessel was completely destroyed by fire.
Vice Commandant, Captain Gregory Soberanis, gave an interview to the media on Monday, confirming that Mcfadzean was seen aboard the vessel by on-duty officers prior to the incident.
Apart from the criminal charges of arson, McFadzean is also expected to face internal disciplinary action by the Belize Coast Guard.
