Jewel Fury withdraw, leave National Amateur Women’s League A with just 3 clubs

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jewel Fury pulled out of the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) on Sunday, leaving the NAWL A Division with just three clubs, champions Sagitun GIRLZ, Rumberas, and Verdes Rebels.

“Jewel Fury FC will not be participating in the current NAWL Closing Season due to various players receiving injuries during our recent international representation,” said Jewel Fury in an official statement on Sunday, October 23, one day after defaulting their opening game against Rumberas at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.

On Saturday, Jewel Fury, even though the game was at home in Belmopan, couldn’t put a team together and couldn’t play. Rumberas had to trek back home to Bella Vista without being able to try out their new squad, said the Southern team in a social media post.

“We thank the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) for taking us into consideration but at this time, it is in the best interest of the players to withdraw from the season,” said Jewel Fury.

“We also thank the sponsors that have been with us and have assisted us along the way. We promise to be back and make you proud.”

Jewel Fury, who have won several NAWL championships, recently represented Belize at the Central American Women’s Club championship for which the club hired several foreign players.

The several weakened NAWL A will now only have one game per week.
