Business magnate, Elon Musk confirms Twitter buyout

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Business magnate, Elon Musk has confirmed that he has bought social media platform Twitter, the Daily Mail reports.

Musk reportedly sent a Tweet to advertisers confirming the $44 billion takeover deal.

In addition, Musk said that while he wants Twitter to be a ‘digital town square’, he doesn’t want it to become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences.

‘Our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature,’ Musk said.

‘I also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed but is right for you,’ Musk added.

However, there are reports that Twitter staff remain on edge after Musk’s takeover as reports suggest that he had planned to terminate 75% of Twitter’s existing staff. 

Some employees have used the platform to share their insecurities about their new boss.
