The Institute of Archaeology (IA)/NICH today hosted the Archaeology Day Fair at Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve in San Jose Succotz in Cayo. The Archaeology Day Fair was first set to be held on Thursday, October 13 on International Archaeology Day but had to be postponed because of bad weather.

“Archaeology day fair is going amazing!” said IA/NICH on Thursday in a social media post.

IA/NICH said the Archaeology Day Fair was an event to celebrate all things archaeology with informative sessions and interactive games,

The fair started at 10:00 am this morning and closed at 3:00 pm.

Frank Tzib and Jorge de Leon made a presentation on Maya Writing and the Sak Xikin team from Northern Belize did a live display of a Pok ta Pok Maya game.

IA/NICH said the fair featured site tours, artifact displays, and informational booths showcasing the utility of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in archaeology research, bioarchaeology, and epigraphy sessions to teach basic hieroglyphic reading and writing.

The Benque House of Culture, the Belize Tourism Board, and the Mexican Embassy among others participated in the one-day fair which was attended by students from area schools.
