By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize City resident, 50-year-old Solomon Smith was sentenced to seven years in prison this week for burglarizing Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Primary School.

Smith was charged with burglary on October 17 and pleaded guilty but he was not sentenced until this week.

He had reportedly broken into the school on October 11 and stole a number of items to a total value of $705.

The Magistrate explained to Smith that since the instant case was his third conviction for burglary, and that he hadn’t given any special reason why the court should not impose a custodial sentence, he would be given the minimum sentence of seven years.

Smith said that, while at the Belize Central Prison, he intends to enroll in a rehabilitation program, so he can return to society as a productive citizen.
