Embassy of Belize in Taiwan receives 2022 Golden Merchant Award; Ambassador Candice Pitts meets with Taiwanese President

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Embassy of Belize in the Republic of China (Taiwan) was honoured with the 2022 Golden Merchant Award.

“The ‘Golden Merchant Award’, established by the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is one of the most important awards for the business community in Taiwan,” said the Embassy of Belize in a social media post.

“It gives the highest recognition and honor to the award winners. Business representatives in Taiwan regard this award as the highest honor.

“The award is highly valued by the Government, and the winners have an opportunity to meet with the President.”

That meeting occurred on Friday, October 28. Ambassador Dr. Candice Augusta Pitts and other recipients of the award met with President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Tsai Ing-wen, the Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, and the President of the Legislative Yuan.

The 76th Golden Merchant Award Ceremony takes place on November 1 during which Ambassador Pitts will offer some brief remarks.

“Ambassador Pitts extends gratitude to the government and business community of Taiwan on behalf of the government and people of Belize for the 2022 Golden Merchant Award that recognizes the strength of our countries’ bilateral relationship as well as the good work the Embassy of Belize continues to do in Taiwan,” said the Belize Embassy in Taiwan.

The Belize Embassy said the selection of the winners is recommended by government investment and trade agencies, foreign chambers of commerce in Taiwan, and important private enterprises.

The Taiwan Chamber of Commerce included the ‘Outstanding Foreign Institute in Taiwan’ as a recipient of the Golden Merchant Award in 1981.
