By Breaking Belize News Staff: The proprietors of Eruption Nightclub located at mile 11 1/2 on the Philip Goldson Highway are out on bail this week after being arrested and charged for allowing a minor into their establishment.
On Thursday, 44-year-old Mirna Estella Portillo and her common-law husband 51-year-old, Hector Choj, who own and manage the popular nightclub appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged with a single count of admitting a person under 18 years of age which is contrary to section 44 (3b) of the Liquor License Act, Chapter 150 of the Laws of Belize.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and were offered bail in the sum of $1,000 each plus one surety each of the same.
The allegations against them are that on Saturday, October 22, 2022, between the hours of 12:32 a.m., and 2:46 a.m., they allowed a minor, a 17-year-old female, to enter their nightclub while it was open for business. That minor would later be a victim of rape and robbery, which prompted the investigation and led to the couple being charged.
A 25-year-old Ladyville resident has since been charged with the rape.
