By Breaking Belize News Staff: After spending two years and two months in prison for throwing scalding hot water on a police inspector, 37-year-old Nigel Ferguson is a free man after the court acknowledged the time he already served for the offense.
Ferguson has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison for the August 6, 2020 incident, where he allegedly poured hot water on Inspector Keith Clark, a sergeant at the time of the incident who had tried to detain Ferguson for not wearing a face mask.
In court, Ferguson decided to plead guilty to the charge of grievous harm, but the magistrate said that she was not convinced, the police had properly represented the severity of the damage. Ferguson was found guilty of harm and sentenced to four months in prison.
Ferguson had to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether or not he was fit to stand trial after his family said that he was suffering from mental illness.
