By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Roadshow concluded today in San Pedro.

The MSME Roadshow Bootcamp training and Townhall sessions around the country saw a total of 896 participants.

The National MSME Roadshow was an initiative through the office of the Prime Minister (OPM) through the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service and Beltraide and was aimed at supporting MSME’s in Belize.

The National MSME Roadshow was launched on August 5, 2022, and made stops in 10 locations across the country.

Entrepreneurs from around the country had the opportunity to participate in the 3-day event that included boot camp training on business models, marketing, customer service, goal setting, and money management.

Businesses also participated in a formalization clinic where they met with key government agencies and financial institutions.

The third day featured a Pop-up shop where MSMEs had the opportunity to promote and sell their products while facilitating supply chain linkages with the Tourism Industry.

Through contributions from the Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples Affairs, 3 women from each stop were awarded $2,500 for their participation in the business pitch competition.

“The National MSME Roadshow aimed to create an enabling environment for MSME development, improve market access and establishment of business linkages for MSMEs; build the business acumen of MSMEs and promote buying locally to increase economic activity,” the Government of Belize noted.

The formalization clinic saw a total of 563 participants and 371 small businesses participated in the Pop-up shops.

Two hundred and fifteen businesses signed up for the Virtual Knowledge Center (VKC).

Prime Minister John Briceno congratulated and thank the municipalities, especially the Mayors, Chairpersons, and Councilors and the agencies that participated In the Formalization Clinic, for their support and recognizes the crucial role they play in the development of small businesses.

“The Government of Belize also recognizes all MSMEs in Belize and acknowledge their importance in creating jobs, strengthening communities, and increasing contributions to our country’s macroeconomic development,” a release from the Government added.
