UDP’s Michael Peyrefitte criticizes police department’s ‘lack’ of effort on battling crime

By Aaron Humes: While murder is the worst crime that can be committed by anyone, according to the UDP’s Michael Peyrefitte, robbery and burglary have seen little change in figures between 2021 and 2022.

Citing official figures, Peyrefitte noted that there was an increase in 2022 in several months for both robberies and burglaries compared to 2021.

The other issue is arrests – or lack of them. A majority of major crimes – murder, robbery, burglary, theft, rape and unlawful sexual intercourse – have seen no arrests – about one in every six. And the problem is down to political interference, Peyrefitte says, because police essentially have to wait to investigate. It means people are getting away with them and that means people feel less safe.
