By Aaron Humes: Beginning today, Belizeans will be paying $129 per hundred-pound cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the urban areas and $131 in the rural areas.
That is a decrease of seven dollars from the prices issued two weeks ago by the Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The corresponding prices per gallon are $4.03 wholesale, $5.63 retail (urban), and $5.73 retail (rural).
The reduction is a result of the decrease in the acquisition price of propane, the greater of the two components that make up LPG (which is sold in Belize at a 70-30 ratio).
For comparison, around this time last year (when a price reduction was announced on November 6, 2021), prices stood at $4.73 wholesale, $6.33 for urban retail, and $6.43 for rural retail. From year to year, prices are down 70 cents per gallon. The per pound price is down $16 from prices of $145 and $147 per hundred-pound cylinder respectively.
