By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-eight-year-old Belize City resident Kareem Harvey is out on bail after being charged with obstructing a police officer from carrying out his duties and for causing damage to a police mobile patrol vehicle.
Harvey appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, charged with one count of obstructing a police officer and one count of damage to property. He pleaded not guilty to the obstruction charge but initially pleaded guilty to the damage to property.
Harvey told the court that he was angry when he was being detained by the officers and threw his bike into the back of the police mobile; however, he feels that the damage that the officers are alleging he caused could have been there before he was detained.
With that explanation, the Magistrate rejected his guilty plea, as it amounted to a defense for the charge. There was no objection to bail and it was granted to him in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same which he was able to meet.
Harvey is due back in court on December 28.
