By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Rumberas meet National Champions Sagitun GIRLZ at 5:00 pm in the Southern derby at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence in the National Amateur Women’s League.
“Our newly rebuilt Team is ready to test the mixture of local veterans and youths led by Head Coach Liz Zabaneh,” said the Rumberas FC in a social media post.
“The Ashcroft is where we all grew up!! Two teams, same origins!! It’s gonna be a great show for all our fans. Head on out to the Majestic as these two teams put on a magnificent show!!” said the Sagitun GIRLZ in their post.
In the only game played so far, the Sagitun GIRLZ beat Verdes Rebels 1-0 last week on a 55th minute goal by Tanya Teul.
Verdes rest this week after the pullout of Jewel Fury last week. But Fury are not the only ones withdrawing; the previous week National Subchampions San Pedro Pirates announced that they were defaulting as well. That left only three clubs in the topflight league, namely champions Sagitun, Rumberas, who finished second in the regular season but lost the semifinals to the Sagitun GIRLZ, and last place Verdes Rebels.
