Woman accused of wounding her common-law husband claims she is the victim

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City woman who is charged with wounding her common law husband, said in court this week that she is the actual victim in the situation.

Pinks Alley resident, Linda Gillett, the biological mother of Laddie Gillett who was shot and killed by police last year, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate informed Gillett that she did not need to explain herself at this stage of the process, but Gillett went on to explain that the complainant called her on Monday, October 24 saying they needed to talk and she needed to come home. She said that when she arrived home he accused her of bringing other men into his home and then put her out. She said that she now has to live at another house in the same area due to the situation.

Bail was granted to her in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which she was able to meet. Gillett is due back in court on December 16.
