Patrick Faber to Michael Peyrefitte: “You are a big, fat liar!”

By Benjamin Flowers: Former United Democratic Party (UDP) Leader and apparent outgoing Standard Bearer for the Collet Constituency Patrick Faber had harsh words for the Party’s Chairman Michael Peyrefitte at his press conference on Friday.

Faber called out Peyrefitte for “disingenuous and outright fake,” behavior, due to public statements and representations Peyrefitte made on a number of party-related issues including the circumstances of the resignation of the Collet Constituency Chair Lady, the work of the party’s Nominations Committee in ousting him as the Standard Bearer of Collet and the pending endorsement of Ian Jones.

Faber took special issue with the petition to recall Party Leader Moses `”Shyne” Barrow, saying that Peyrefitte outrightly lied regarding why the petition failed. In Peyrefitte’s letter to Vice Chairman Alberto August he explained that of the 200 signatures submitted on October 21, four signatures of alternates did not qualify to sign the petition, two of the signatures are of people who resigned and do not qualify, and three of the signatures were from people who are not delegates of the UDP.

Faber challenged Peyrefitte’s largest reason for the failure of the petition, that 43 people had requested to have their signatures withdrawn from the petition, alleging that after the signatures were submitted, Barrow, John Saldivar and other party members made threatening phone calls and sent threatening messages to delegates demanding that they withdraw.

“So when the chairman puts in writing and sends to a media house or media houses, that in fact, these signatures were withdrawn even before the submission, I say to you Mr. Peyrefitte, you are a big fat liar,” Faber said.

Notably, party member and Albert Division Area Representative, Tracy Taegar Panton, recently explained that the party’s recall mechanism is provided for under Article 8(7) of the UDP Constitution stipulating that for it to be triggered with an adequate number of supporters, 172 signatures from the delegate pool. Panton also explained that delegates are bound to stand by their signature once they sign.

“Whether such a petition is successful or not successful will be determined at the recall Convention,” Panton said. “There is no provision in the UDP Constitution that allows for signatures to be retracted once such a petition has been filed.”

Faber has said publicly that the faction seeking to usurp Barrow has not given up on removing him.
