Potential Tropical Cyclone 15: Belize watches and waits as Jamaica, Caymans are under storm alert

By Aaron Humes: As of three p.m. The National Hurricane Center, Miami (NHC) has begun issuing advisories on the fifteenth potential storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season.

Jamaica and the Cayman Islands are both under tropical storm watch for conditions to deteriorate within 48 hours. The system is presently southeast of Kingston, Jamaica with winds of 40 miles per hour, moving west-northwesterly at ten miles per hour.

Belize and the Caribbean coast of Central America are warned to monitor the storm’s progress as additional watches or warnings will likely be required early this week.

The storm is gradually expected to turn west on Tuesday night and strengthen beginning tonight, becoming a tropical storm that would be named Lisa.

Belize has not been directly hit by a storm since Hurricane Earl in August of 2016, though there have been many close calls and flooding associated with passing storms and systems.
