By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize Water Services (BWS) issued a notice to the public that normal water supplies may be affected due to the imminent landfall of Tropical Storm Lisa.
BWS said that water from its own infrastructure, rural water distribution systems, as well as individual wells and water storage tanks or vats, may become contaminated and called on the public to be vigilant in assessing their drinking water during and after the storm.
“BWS advises the public that if any water is suspected to be contaminated, it is strongly recommended to treat the water before drinking or consuming in any way. It is also recommended for persons in the rural areas that may experience flood, to also treat your drinking water as it may not be safe to drink,” BWS said.
Tropical Storm Lisa, achieved tropical storm status this morning after an area of low pressure in the Caribbean sea strengthened over the weekend. It is expected to make landfall in Belize by Wednesday and may intensify into a hurricane by that time. The public is urged to keep informed of the latest developments from official information channels.
