Ministry of Economic Development issues travel advisory in preparation for Tropical Storm Lisa

Posted: Monday, October 31, 2022. 6:15 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Ministry of Economic Development issued an advisory on safe travel as Belize prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Lisa.

The Ministry notes that the tropical storm may be Hurricane Lisa by the time it makes landfall in Belize, and encouraged Belizeans to be mindful that the most important thing is the preservation of life.

“Your hurricane plan might include traveling to your place of shelter. As you do so, please keep the following in mind: 1. Prepare to move early, avoiding the need to rush; 2. Check your vehicle properly to ensure it is roadworthy; 3. Be courteous to other road users; they too want to get to their shelters safely; 4. Comply with the speed limit of 55 miles per hour; 5. Reduce your speed if the road is wet or visibility is poor; and 6. Ensure that all are buckled up,” the Ministry said.

Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate as soon as possible, and all Belizeans are urged to remain informed with information from official sources.
