By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National Champions Sagitun GIRLZ defeated Rumberas 3-2 in a hot and entertaining match at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence in the second week of action in the National Amateur Women’s League A Division on Saturday.

Jurshia Zuniga opened the scoring for the champions in the 7th minute, but Sidney Montenegro responded tying the match in the 23rd.

Iamara Baptist then put the Sagitun GIRLZ ahead 2-1 in the 40th minute to make it 2-1. The 3-1 lead came when Carmen Campos scored in her own goal in favor of the Sagitun GIRLZ.

The orange and red team didn’t give up and got another by Kelsey Polanco in the 88th, but time ran out on them and Sagitun GIRLZ took the victory, their second.

Sagitun now leads with six points ahead of Rumberas and Verdes who don’t have a point yet.

Despite the loss, Rumberas, who are in the rebuilding process, are satisfied with their performance, according to a social media post.
