Belize Weather: Lisa on the way

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A wrecking ball named Lisa may be on her way, but for now at least the National Meteorological Service says the weather will remain mostly fair today, though conditions gradually deteriorate starting tonight.

Skies will be sunny with some cloudy spells and isolated showers over northern and inland areas. Tonight, skies will be cloudy in spells as rainfall activity increases offshore and along the coast.

High temperatures reach 87 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; 90 degrees over inland areas and 80 degrees in the hills. Tonight’s low temperatures will be 73 degrees along the coast, 67 degrees inland and 65 degrees in the hills.

Winds are north to northeasterly at five to 15 knots, becoming north to northwesterly at 10 to 20 knots and gusty. The seas begin light chop to choppy becoming moderate to rough.

Belize’s coast remains under a hurricane watch. A small craft caution will go into effect tonight for gusty winds and rough seas, expected to be upgraded to a warning by Wednesday. Mariners are advised to make any necessary preparations. Also, a flood watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Tides will be low at 10:40 this morning and 9:44 this evening and high at 5:13 this afternoon. The sun sets at 5:20 this evening and rises at 5:51 Wednesday morning.

Wednesday is all about Lisa as the system crosses the country, bringing numerous showers, thunderstorms and squally winds beginning late Wednesday evening into night before expected landfall.
