Department of Environment urges industries to store chemicals on high grounds and away from flood waters

Posted: Tuesday, November 1, 2022. 1:11 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Department of the Environment (DOE) is urging businesses and industries to prepare for the arrival of Tropical Storm Lisa.

The DOE reminds the public that industrial chemicals, pesticides, and other hazardous substances (e.g. fuel, oils, lubricants) should be stored on high ground away from flood waters to prevent potential contamination of the natural environment.

Additionally, these chemicals should be properly stored using best practices and standard requirements, such as segregated storage, tightly sealed containers, and containment bunds.

The DOE reminds to remain vigilant as flood waters encroach, particularly in low-lying areas and areas prone to storm surges, to ensure protection of life, environment, and property and report any spill immediately.
