By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National Garifuna Council said on Tuesday in a press release that all its activities planned for this coming weekend have been postponed until further notice.

Those activities include the Garifuna Expo on Friday, November 4, the Solidarity Mass and Miss Garifuna National Pageant, and the Miss Garifuna After Party on Saturday, November 5 – which are postponed until further notice.

“All these events are scheduled to take place in Dangriga which is where Hurricane Lisa is expected to make landfall,” said the statement issued by National Garifuna Council (NGC) President Sheen Zuniga.

“As such, it will not be feasible to hold our planned events. Our priority at this time is to ensure preparedness and safety.”

The National Garifuna Council advised area residents particularly those in Dangriga, Hopkins, Seine Bight, and surrounding communities to take the necessary precautions for safety during this storm.

“Please leave low-lying areas, secure your properties, gather all necessary supplies, be aware of what shelter you are to go to if you need to evacuate, and move in a timely and responsible manner,” said the NGC.

“We call on the Almighty and our Ancestors to protect our lives and property during this storm and for the impact to be minimal.”
