Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts.
Rapid weakening is expected after the center of Lisa moves inland.
Hurricane conditions including torrential rains and strong winds are expected in Belize.
There are reports of 2 houses that collapsed in Belize City due to strong winds.
A state of emergency has been declared for the Belize and Stann Creek Districts as Hurricane Lisa makes landfall in Belize.
The public is urged to keep informed and be prepared.
