By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center was severely impacted by Hurricane Lisa which made landfall in Belize on Wednesday.

“Thankfully, our staff, and all the critters, are safe, but, the damage to animals’ habitats and our pathways is extensive. As a result, we remain closed until further notice! We will focus our energy on providing care to our beloved wildlife while we work to restore “the best little zoo in the world,” the Zoo said in a statement.

The Belize Zoo thanks all supporters and colleagues who have reached out.

“We will be posting regular updates on our progress as we work towards opening our gates once more,” the Zoo noted.

The Belize Zoo says that it welcomes monetary donations to aid recovery and repair efforts.
