Posted: Thursday, November 3, 2022. 9:48 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hurricane Lisa weakened after slamming into Belize on Wednesday causing damage to homes, roads, and damaging electrical posts.

As of this morning, Tropical Depression Lisa was moving into southern Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) noted that Lisa has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kph).

The storm’s center was about 65 miles southeast of Ciudad del Carmen, on Mexico’s Gulf coast.

Lisa was moving west at 10 mph and was expected to cross into the Gulf of Mexico by Friday.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said the storm came ashore between the beach town of Dangriga and Belize City.

There is still a State of Emergency in effect for the Belize and Stann Creek Districts.
