By Aaron Humes: A decomposed body found on the Hummingbird Highway at high noon today is believed to be that of a recently reported missing person, according to police.
This afternoon around 12:00 pm, Police responded to a scene at Mile 40, Hummingbird Highway, Cayo District, which led to the discovery of a decomposed body of a female.
The body was dressed in a black blouse and black and red short pants with a silver bracelet on the left hand and a black band on her right ankle. The area was searched and the body was inspected but no signs of injury were observed.
Information received is that Luz Mejia had made a missing person report on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, for her sister-in-law Celia Celeste Florian, 30, self-employed of Mariposa Street, Belmopan, who was reported missing since Monday, October 31, 2022.
From the clothing found, the family identified the dead body to be that of Florian. The body was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead and later transported to the National Forensic Science Service morgue, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
