Jane Usher Boulevard residents plead assistance from BEL to remove fallen lamp post

Posted: Sunday, November 6, 2022. 9:44 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Residents of JR Street in the Jane Usher Boulevard area of Belize City are calling on Belize Electricity Limited to assist in moving the remnants of a lamp post that fell during Hurricane Lisa.

Area residents say that the broken lamp post and power lines are in the middle of the street, preventing access to vehicular traffic.

Reports are that neighborhood children have been seen playing around the downed power lines and that an unsuspecting driver who tried to turn down the street got cables tangled in his vehicle and almost caused more damage trying to remove them.

A number of houses have been without power since Wednesday as a result. Residents tell Breaking Belize News that crews were in the area during the week but seemingly worked around JR Street.

The attention of all relevant BEL personnel is called to this situation.
