By Aaron Humes: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) teams continue to concentrate efforts on completing restoration of service to the remaining areas of the Belize and Cayo Districts where the most severe damages to the power system were sustained from Hurricane Lisa.
On Saturday, November 5, power supply was restored as projected to the remaining areas of Belize City, including Belama and portions of King’s Park and the Downtown area; also Burrell Boom, Hattieville, and the communities of Fresh Pond, Buttercup Estate and Vista del Mar in rural Belize District.
Today, the teams are working to complete repairs in the Belize River Valley area, communities along Mile 20 to 25 George Price Highway and a remaining portion of La Democracia.
As of 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022, we had restored power to 99% of customers in the Cayo District, 98% in Belize City, and 95% in rural Belize District.
BEL says it is also addressing localized issues responsible for pockets of customers still without electricity in previously restored areas. These localized issues are primarily due to specific repairs needed transformers, low voltage lines, and customer service lines, the vast majority of which should be resolved today.
