By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Institute of Archaeology (NICH) said nine archaeological reserves are open on Monday, but all other reserves remain closed as it continues its recovery efforts after the damage caused by Hurricane Lisa.

The IA/NICH said Lamanai, Nohoch Che’en, Caracol, Serpon Sugar Mill, Nim Li Punit, Lubaantun, Santa Rita, Cerro Maya, and Cahal Pech are open. The first two were just opened on Monday. Caracol was opened on Saturday. The last six have been open since Friday, November 4.

The IA/NICH has been busy removing fallen trees, putting back signs, and repairing other damage caused by Lisa at the different reserves particularly those in the Belize and Cayo Districts.

The IA/NICH will advise when other reserves such as Xunantunich, Barton Creek, and the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) caves will be open.
