By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Twenty-five referees completed the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) Referee Assistance Program last week, said the FFB.
The 13 referees and 12 assistant referees from across Belize took the course which was conducted by FIFA technical refereeing instructor Victor Stewart from Jamaica, FIFA fitness instructor Kelesha Antoine from Antigua and Barbuda, and FIFA/Concacaf technical refereeing instructor John Pitti from Panama. They were assisted by the FFB’s Referees Director Eugene Contreras and FFB referee instructors David Henry Jones and Abner Alvarez.
The FFB said the objective of the course was to update the officials on the Laws of the Game, improve their interpretation of the Laws of the Game for better officiating, and improve their daily physical training activities.
The FFB said it recognized the importance of our referees and match officials as they play a very important role “in this game we all love” and committed itself to continue investing in their development.
The FFB said the fitness test is considered a crucial component of the course and congratulated the 10 participants who passed the test conducted on Saturday October 28, 2022 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. Those referees are Victor Caliz, Andy Albeño, Andres Chiroy, Efren Guy, Mariano Taca, Jonathan Jones, Alexander Lourie, Robert Cucul, Thierry Gallego, and Jose Colindres.
