By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Orange Walk resident, Mimi Novelo told BBN that her 6-year-old daughter usually leaves school at 2pm. Sometimes, her daughter would go to her uncle’s shop that is located in front of the school. Mimi says that daily she would go to the school to wait for her child to exit and take her home.
But today, Novelo was told that her daughter who attends St. Peter’s Anglican School in Orange Walk had extra classes. Novelo says she assumed that her daughter would leave school at 3pm along with her siblings.
During this time, Novelo decided to visit nearby pharmacies to buy vitamins and medication.
And upon her return around 4pm, she asked if her daughter had arrived at the shop. The child’s uncle said that the child had arrived at the shop and had been playing but she was nowhere to be found.
One of her siblings said that the child was seen speaking to a lady with a child.
Mimi notified the police and the school and her family and the principal and teachers began searching for the child.
Just after 5pm, the child was located playing in a park but the person that took her was not around.
Novelo warns other parents to be cautious and to speak to their children about safety measures and not talk to strangers.
“ Please my daughter was taken by a stranger (lady) telling her she will give her an ice cream..please let’s be on alert for our kids,” Novelo said.
Novelo says that she thanks God, she found her daughter and advises other parents to be on the alert because it was the most horrifying hour of her life.
