International News: Teacher among 3 people found dead at Airbnb in Mexico City

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A teacher from New Orleans is among 3 people that were found dead at an Airbnb in Mexico City over the weekend.

Cortez Hall was a social studies teacher at KIPP Morial School in New Orleans, Yahoo reports.

Hall’s mom, Ceola says that her son was a joyous child.

“My son was a joyous child, he loved me, he loved his family. He loved to make everyone laugh,” Ceola said.

The staff and students are heartbroken by the loss of their teacher.

According to the family, they last spoke to Cortez on Saturday after he traveled to Mexico City with 2 friends.

On Monday, the family received a call from the U.S. Embassy that all 3 were found dead inside an Airbnb.

His 2 friends were identified by their families as Jordan Marshall, 28, and Kandace Florence, 28, of Virginia.

The U.S. Embassy confirmed to local news that 3 U.S. citizens died in Mexico and they are communicating with local authorities.

“We can confirm the death of three U.S. citizens in Mexico. We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death. We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect for the privacy of the families, we have nothing further to add at this time,” the U.S. Embassy said.

KIPP Morial Middle School extended condolences to the school’s staff, students and friends of the beloved teacher.
