By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Category 1 Hurricane Lisa battered Belize damaging homes, schools, and businesses and knocking off power and electricity in Belize City.
The United States Embassy in Belize announced today that the U.S. has committed US $237,000 to assist in hurricane relief.
“In the wake of Hurricane Lisa, the United States has committed US $237,000 to enable our partners in Belize to deliver priority needs such as bedding, hygiene products, and other materials to help those impacted by this natural disaster,” the U.S. Embassy noted.
As a first step, through US Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Embassy delivered 175 mattresses and cleaning supplies to the Belize Red Cross.
“Our close cooperation with Belizean partners has enabled the United States Government to provide critical humanitarian assistance to alleviate suffering and help Belizeans get their homes and communities back to normal,” the Embassy added.
“#WeStandWithBelize and the resilient people of the Jewel, as we work together to recover from this disaster,” the Embassy reiterated.
