By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize Police Department says that there were two reported incidents of attempted kidnapping this week and both of them have turned out to be false.

Police issued a statement this morning, explaining that both incidents, one in Orange Walk and the other in Belize City were investigated thoroughly and it was found that the alleged victims of both incidents had lied.

With respect to the Orange Walk case, police say that the minor who claimed a stranger had taken her for ice cream admitted to lying after she found out that her mother and the police were looking for her.

With respect to the Belize City incident, the two voice recordings purporting to be from a police officer warning the public about the attempted kidnapping were not sanctioned by either the Public Relations Unit of the police department, or the Commissioner of Police.

The minor in that incident was found to have been skipping school and lied when she was found out.
