By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hurricane Nicole made landfall this morning in Florida before weakening to a Tropical Storm.
The Weather Channel notes that Nicole became just the 4th November hurricane to landfall in the mainland U.S. in records dating to the mid-19th century, and the first to do so in 37 years.
The impacts of Nicole include coastal flooding, beach erosion, strong winds, high surf, heavy rain, and tornadoes.
The center of Nicole is now moving over the northern half of Florida.
A tornado watch is in effect until 7 p.m. for eastern Georgia and southern South Carolina, including Savannah and St. Simons Island.
Winds have gusted 70 mph or greater on Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Flooding was reported in parts of Florida’s Atlantic coast.
