By Aaron Humes: The Government of Japan on Thursday announced it had agreed to deliver emergency relief goods to Belize in response to relief efforts following Hurricane Lisa. These include generators, sleeping pads, and blankets.

There was no price tag on the donation but it will be coordinated through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a long-time supporter of projects in Belize.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, “In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Belize, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Belize to support people affected by the disaster.” It further noted that up to 94 thousand residents, mostly in the Belize and Cayo Districts, were affected and five thousand of those had to evacuate their residences ahead of the storm.
