PM John Briceño: “In aftermath of Hurricane Lisa, Belizeans united to assist and share”

Posted: Friday, November 11, 2022. 10:46 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On November 2, 2022, Hurricane Lisa battered Belize damaging homes, businesses, schools and knocking off power and electricity in Belize City.

In the aftermath of Lisa, Belizeans from across the country came together to clean up, assist and share with those most affected.

Prime Minister John Briceño says he regrets the loss and damage and has visited hundreds of affected families.

“I was moved to moments of admiration as I saw neighbours helping each other, communities coming together to share, neighbouring municipalities pouring into the Belize District to help with the clean-up.

This is our can do spirit and this is the true sign of a nation united. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, for your unceasing generosity. I reiterate Cabinet’s pledge to muster every resource available, human and financial, to strengthen this rapid bounce-back from Lisa,” the Prime Minister noted.

The Prime Minister says that Government will propose a supplementary budget to support social welfare expansion, and clean up and repairs to housing and roads nationwide.

“Not Lisa nor the UDP, not Covid nor global disruptions will lessen our optimism that Belize is truly now on a march to glory. Two years ago, from North to South, the promise of Plan Belize lit hearts and lifted spirits. Today, from East to West, the glow and smile of winning is everywhere,” he added.

He encouraged all Belizeans to continue to work together because when Belize wins, we each win.

“Though so short a time, these first two years show how much we can achieve when we work together and with the guidance of our Creator we move ever forward in Building a Belize that works for Everyone. Long live Belize. Que Viva Belize Thank you,” he ended.
