Man walks from wounding charge after girlfriend requests an end to court action

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was spared going to trial after the alleged victim asked that the charges be dropped.

Twenty-one-year-old Shawn Williams appeared in the Belize City Magistrates Court charged with a single count of wounding, with respect to injuries he caused to his girlfriend with a knife during a dispute on Monday, November 7.

The 22-year-old victim appeared in court to say that she did not want to proceed with the matter against him and had to answer several follow-up questions including whether or not she was being threatened or otherwise coerced to drop the charges.

She answered “no” to all of the Magistrate’s questions and with no further evidence against him, Williams was free to leave.
