Belize wins 5 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze at XXIII Central American Master Athletics Championships in Costa Rica

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize won 5 gold medals, 3 silver, 5 bronze at the XXIII Central American Master Athletics Championships held in San Jose, Costa Rica from November 3-6.

Fred Evans won three gold medals in the Master 75-79 years and over in discus (25.42), javelin (25.14 m), and shotput (9.56 m).

Daland Jones, participating in M 60-69 category won silver in discus (28.88 m) and shotput (9.60 m) and a bronze in javelin (26.69 m).

Lawrence Craig, M 60-69, won gold in high jump (1.15 m) and shotput (8.52) and a bronze in triple jump (6.03 m).

Cuthbert Burrell, M 50-59, got silver in long jump (3.86 m).

Leopold Lamb, M 30-45, won three bronze medals in discus (27.13 m), javelin (33.31 m), and shotput (9.60 m).

“Our aim is to have a larger delegation of Master Athletes from Belize to compete in the 2023 Central American Masters Athletics Championship,” said the report from the Belize Masters Athletics National Team.

According to Belize’s delegation, 695 Master athletes registered for the events and 21 countries participated.  Belize’s delegation was made up of 5 Master athletes. The athletes from the 14 invited countries were ranked but couldn’t win any medals.
