By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Guanacaste National Park awaits your visit,” said the Belize Audubon Society (BAS) which administers the national park situated in Roaring Creek right across from the National Agriculture and Trade and Showgrounds.
“You can plan a picnic, or you can take your lunch. You can plan a school trip or take an unscheduled walk through the park in your leisure [time]. There is an abundance of flora and small fauna in the area.
“Our team is meticulous and ready to meet and greet you at the entrance at this park located at the entrance to Belmopan City,” the BAS said.
With the opening of the Guanacaste National Park, six of the seven parks the BAS manages are now open. They were closed due to Hurricane Lisa which hit Belize on November 2. The other five parks, namely the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Half Moon Caye, and the Blue Hole Monument, were opened earlier.
The seventh national park, the Victoria Peak Natural Monument is closed because it is out of visiting season.
“We don’t do it during the rainy season; we do it during the dry season because it’s high-risk hiking … three days. It’s open from February to June,” said BAS Executive Director Amanda Acosta.
