By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Guatemalan national living in Belize for almost three years was fined in court this week, and will be deported back to his home country.
Twenty-eight-year-old, Estuardo Leonel Resulo Ramirez, was stopped by police on Saturday, November 11, and was unable to produce documentation to prove that he was in Belize legally. He was detained and handed over to Immigration Department personnel who learned that he entered Belize as a visitor in February 2020, and was to leave in March 2020 but failed to do so.
In court, he pleaded guilty for failing to extend his visitor permit and was fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court which had to be paid upfront since he is not a resident.
The Immigration Department also applied for a removal order against him which will be carried out sometime this week.
