Qatar, Ecuador open FIFA World Cup on Sunday at 10 am

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Hosts Qatar and Ecuador will kick off the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at 10:00 am (Belize time) on Sunday, November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khar, Qatar.

The World Cup, the most viewed event on earth, runs until December 18 during which time a total of 64 games will be played. The final will be played at the Lusail Stadium.

On opening day, only the inauguration match will be played. The following day three games will be played. From there on four games will be played on every game day all the way to the end of the Round of 16 on December 5.

Favourites to lift the World Cup, out of a total of 32 participating countries, are defending champs France, Brazil, Argentina, and Germany, but there are other hopefuls such as England and Portugal.

This is the first time that teams have been able to call 26 players. Prior to this edition, only 23 were allowed. By now all coaches have named their lists.

The biggest attractions being Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Sadio Mane, Kevin de Bruyne, Robert Lewandowski, and Pedri, to name a few. According to FIFA, Cristiano is the player with the most international appearances at 191 and the most goals at 117.

The United States, Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica represent Concacaf.
