Almost 80,000 Monkeypox cases confirmed in 110 locations

Posted: Wednesday, November 16, 2022. 1:57 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is that there have been 79,655 cases of Monkeypox in 110 locations around the world.

The United States has reported 28,999 cases of the viral disease.

Mexico has reported 3007 cases, Guatemala- has 111 cases and Honduras has 10 cases.

The CDC notes that data suggest that gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men make up the majority of cases in the current monkeypox outbreak.

Studies show that the virus can be transmitted in 3 ways, through direct contact with an infected person’s skin rash; by respiratory droplets spread when someone coughs or sneezes, and by touching contaminated surfaces or objects.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that health officials in all countries should be on the alert for signals related to people presenting with a rash that may be associated with fever, enlarged lymph nodes, back pain, and muscle aches.
