By Rubén Morales Iglesias: If you’re driving on the Philip Goldson Highway, Burrell Boom Road, the George Price Highway, and the Caracol Road over the next few days, do exercise caution as long and heavy bridge beams will be transported from Ladyville to the New Pinol Bridge on the Caracol Road.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH), through its construction contractor for the Caracol Road Upgrading Project, Belize Roadway Construction Ltd., informs the general public that FIFTEEN (15) extremely heavy, 100 feet long bridge beams will be transported on the Philip Goldson Highway, the Burrell Boom Road, the George Price Highway, and the Caracol Road from Ladyville to the New Pinol Bridge Site on multiple trips,” said a MIDH press release issued on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) said the transportation will take place from Thursday, November 17, to Thursday, November 24.
The MIDH advises drivers to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution when approaching heavy equipment transporting these reinforced concrete beams.
“Drivers are asked to always follow traffic warnings and the instructions of escorts as these beams may take up the entire width of the highway, especially at intersections, roundabouts, and passing through villages,” said the MIDH.
The five 131-ft beams will be transported via the Philip Goldson Highway, Orange Walk Town Bypass, San Estevan Road, Progresso Road, Copper Bank Road, Little Belize Road, Chunox Road, and Sarteneja Road.
The MIDH said they thank everyone “for their kind cooperation in abiding by these safety precautions and by exercising due care and attention when encountering these extraordinary loads on the highway”.
